Students Attend LGBT+ Student Network Event

LGBT+ students from New College Stamford attended the 3rd successful LGBT+ student network event yesterday which was held at Peterborough Regional College.

The event brought together LGBT+ communities from other colleges including Boston and Lincoln so students can connect with other young LGBT+ students from neighbouring Colleges to talk and to hear from organisations such as ‘The Kite Trust’ who gave the students awareness training.

The Kite Trust are Cambridgeshire’s leading organisation working with LGBT+ young people. They are proud to promote the health, well-being, and inclusion of LGBT+ young people across Cambridgeshire; raising awareness, supporting, and educating our local communities. Students getting this opportunity to build up these relationships and networks with not just their own friends from the same college, but from colleges all over the local area is fantastic. It is such a brilliant idea to help tackle any issues there may be as well as giving the students an even wider support network for them to reach out to other people in a similar position as themselves and this is only going to help them and support them to succeed.

Our Safeguarding Officer, Jessica Dennett says, ‘We have a strong and supportive LGBT+ Community here at New College Stamford. We have a friendly and inclusive environment where students have the opportunity to create new friendships, access support and engage in social and charity events. We also have industry speakers such as Peter Tatchell who visit our College to inform our students and discuss topics such as LGBT+ rights and many more!’.

If you’re starting college this year or looking to start in 2019 and want to learn about all of the extra opportunities available to you as a student, or perhaps you want to learn more about out LGBT+ events etc, visit our Student Union located in student services near reception and they will help you with all the information you need!
