Stamford College, FE provider of Inspire Education Group, hosted a Construction & Engineering Skills Career Event for local school students, in partnership with South Lincolnshire Group Training Association.

Hundreds of students from Ken Stimpson Community School, King Edward Academy, Corby Business Academy, Ambergate Sports College, Catmose College, and Stamford Welland Academy, enjoyed a wide variety of hands-on activities, from studying thermal efficiency materials, to performing machinery checks. Each task was kindly sponsored by a local industry provider – thank you to representatives of Allison Homes, Arion Training, CR Civils, Daniel Charles Construction, GF Tomlinson, George Barnsdale & Sons, Messenger Construction, and NCC Apprenticeships, for sharing your invaluable expertise. An awards ceremony, sponsored by George Barnsdale & Sons, at the end of the day was a fantastic way of recognising students that displayed an aptitude or interest for the activities they participated in.

Emma Hill, Head of Faculty for Technical and Modern Construction Skills at Stamford College, said, “Once again, the Construction & Engineering Skills Career Event was an exciting and engaging day, supported by employers from across the region. It provided pupils with hands on activities for a real-life experience of the Construction and Engineering industry. Thank you to our College students who assisted at the event as Student Ambassadors, ensuring everyone had a positive experience.”

This gratitude was emulated by Steve Taylor, Group Training Manager for South Lincolnshire Group Training Association, who said, “These free-to-attend events are a great example of what effective working relationships can achieve. We have received fantastic support, sponsorship and goodwill from micro-businesses, through to large employers, and of course Further Education providers and training companies. Participation has been as much or as little as the stakeholder could commit to, but through a collaborative approach, we have once again provided an excellent experience for school children within our region. The best endorsements of the event come from those who attend”.

As Steve mentioned, the event received a wealth of positive feedback from school students and staff in attendance. A Careers Coordinator from one school said, “Wow! Once again, such a brilliant, well-organised day. Thanks to all those involved – providers, sponsors, Students Ambassadors of Stamford College and South Lincolnshire Group Training Association. It really is the highlight of the year for the students. It’s really inspiring, and highlights in such an interactive way what opportunities are available. We’d love to attend next year!”. Similarly, another member of staff said, “Thank you for a great event. Our pupils had a fantastic day and really enjoyed all the workshops they attended. The students from Stamford College were so accommodating and patient with our pupils, enabling them to get the most out of the experience. They should be incredibly proud, as they were all a real credit to the College”. One student expressed that the day opened doors to opportunities they didn’t know existed, “Thank you for the experiences and opportunities that you showed were possible for me to follow and achieve. | greatly appreciate the time and effort you and the team had put in for us all – it has changed my view on what lies ahead and made me re-think my future possibilities post-16”.

Inspire Education Group thanks all those involved in the smooth running of the event. To learn more about construction courses at Stamford College, click here.
