We were delighted to welcome Gareth Davies MP at Stamford College and embraced the opportunity to showcase our brand new campus expansions. Gareth showed a great deal of interest in how we support local businesses with skilled employees of the future by developing and nurturing our curriculum offering.
During the visit, hosted by Principal Janet Meenaghan, Gareth donned his hard hat to see the latest build - a £3.3 million new construction centre, which has been funded partly by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP) and Department for Education Post 16 Capital Funding in response to the substantial growth in recent student applications and the increased demand for skilled workers in the trade-based industries within the local area.
The visit continued with a tour of the recently completed £2.1 million expansion to Borderville Sports Centre, also funded by (GLLEP). This impressive upgrade to the already outstanding facility has enabled the College to deliver higher-level qualifications, including digitally enhanced training in Sports Science, Health and Social Care and Public Services directly supporting local business needs, including the Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire Police Service.
As part of the newly formed Inspire Education Group which leads both Stamford College and Peterborough College, Gareth was also able to hear about the groups plans in Peterborough for a Green Technology Centre which will deliver a new and innovative curriculum in careers like sustainable construction and electric vehicle manufacturing - sectors which are calling out for qualified future employees and offering high wages.
A planning application for the new building is due to be submitted to Peterborough City Council's planning committee in the spring - with the build due to start later this year if approved.
Throughout the visit, Gareth Davies spoke of his role within the local community and his personal dedication to support and improve the district for the members of his constituency. He communicated his commitment to supporting Stamford College and our shared endeavors to ensure our students have the best start in their future careers.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Gareth Davies for his visit, and look forward to welcoming him again.
