Stamford College, part of Inspire Education Group, were delighted to host representatives of ITV News, who were filming a segment about women in the construction sector.
Prompted by recent statistics that show stagnation in the growth of female participation in the male-dominated industry, ITV contacted Stamford College, requesting to interview female students currently enrolled on the Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry & Joinery and Bricklaying courses, to portray the benefits of learning a trade.
Three students; Plumbing Apprentice, Scarlett Ball, Level 3 Plumbing student, Angela Payler-Giddings, and Level 1 Brickwork student, Shannon King, alongside Carpentry Lecturer, Laura Doyle, were interviewed by Good Morning Britain Presenter for ITV News Anglia, Emily Knight. They discussed their inspiration for learning a trade, their career plans and their advice for women looking to pursue a career in construction. All were a credit to the College, and the wider community of tradeswomen.
Thank you to ITV News for providing the opportunity for Inspire Education Group to be involved in promoting such an important message. Sincere gratitude to all those interviewed and the lecturers that facilitated the filming.
