Aaron Sismey, a GCSE maths lecturer at Stamford College, regularly goes further than curriculum requirements to provide his students with an inspirational teaching, support and overall learning experience.
Aaron’s mantra of ‘no student left behind’ is clearly illustrated in his ongoing commitment to the future lives and career prospects of the young people and adults he teaches; from creating websites designed to support distance learning, devising student work-packs used to test progress, building student confidence with personal goal setting and providing additional support to those in need by way of free extra tuition, his creative approach to teaching has seen a rise in student aspiration and engagement levels, confirmed with an increased exam outcome that exceeds the national average.
Aaron's additional willingness to share successful teaching techniques and strategies with other professionals in the sector, enabling students studying elsewhere to prosper, has also contributed to Stamford College being awarded a ‘Centre of Excellence for Math's' status.
This coveted status of recognised excellence, awarded to twenty-one institutions as part of a five-year national improvement programme, aims to deliver sustained improvements in maths outcomes for sixteen to nineteen-year-olds. Becoming a national centre of excellence for maths as a result of Aaron and the maths department team is a significant achievement for Stamford College.
Aaron's proactive and evolving teaching approach, passion for his subject, commitment to his employer and unparalleled dedication to all of his students alike, coupled with his impressive contribution to gaining centre of excellence status for his department and college, exemplifies his nomination for the ‘Outstanding Staff Member of the Year’ award.
This prestigious honour, created by the Skills and Education Group Foundation, celebrates the inspiring achievements of outstanding staff members who have made a positive impact on other people’s lives through their roles. Following the cancellation of the awards for 2021, the foundation has commended Aaron as a standout nominee and given him much-deserved recognition for his peerless contribution during these exceptional times.
