Former Hairdressing alumni Ashlee Mears and Vicky Smith have teamed together to open their own salon after studying Hairdressing NVQ at New College Stamford in 2003.
Now proud owners of Twenty Twenty Salon in Oakham Ashlee and Vicky look back on their time at college and said,
“The theory units on the hairdressing course teach you much more than just how to cut and dress hair, we learnt about allergies, the science and formulas of products and professional practice. All of which, alongside work experience has been hugely beneficial to our careers”.
Today, Hairdressing students have the opportunity to undertake compulsory work experience alongside training in our on-site commercial salon, working on catwalks, fashion shoots and taking part in competitions. All contributing to them developing their hair portfolio and gaining specialist skills in hairdressing through the study of advanced cutting and colouring techniques.
Now as Salon Owners, Ashlee and Vicky are employers to recently qualified Hairdressers, they said,
“Looking back at the experience we have gained in the last 16 years, we really value experience over someone who just has a qualification. We really value apprenticeships, work experience and similar opportunities available to students studying at the college today”
