New College Stamford are set to install a new state-of-the-art Transportation Shute to offer a new mode of internal transportation for students studying at the college’s newly renovated Digital Skills Centre.
Students, although delighted with their new facilities on the 5th floor, have been raising concerns about the increased time in takes to travelling up and down the staircases, and college bosses agreed it was time for a change!
The new Transportation Shute will be installed throughout the north staircase of the College’s iconic Tower Block and will add an exciting new feature to the skyline of Stamford.

The Digital Skills Centre was completed in September 2018 and is built to replicate a professional, working agency environment, kitted out with the latest smart technology, programming and virtual simulation software.
The £1 million investment will be perfected by the latest addition of the new state-of-the-art Transportation Shute which will be fully digitalised with Digital Skills Centre students each owning a unique key fob card to allow them access to the shute of which they will learn to programme, install and maintain themselves.
Director of IT and Resources Rob Cottrell said,
“The development of the Transportation Shute is progressing smoothly and we are delighted to be able to implement such an innovative solution befitting of our new state-of-the-art facilities. I can’t say much at this stage but further developments are to take place later this year and early next which could include the installation of a trampoline to assist students with the climb up the stairs.”
“The college are committed to investing in our campus to ensure that our students have access to the best facilities, from football pitches to slides – you name it, we’ve got it.”
The new addition will be installed during the Easter break, ready for the students return in April. Students are advised to limit the amount of chocolate eggs they consume during the break to ensure they are within the weight limit for the slide.
