Amelia Naylor nominated as ‘Apprentice of the Year’

Congratulations to Amelia Naylor who we recently nominated for ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at our Student Awards.

Amelia enrolled on our Level 2 Diploma in Adult Social Care in September 2018 having only just joined the industry and only experience working working in retail. Shortly afterwards, she joined the Cygnet team at Elston House, the specialist residential service in Newark for adults with autism.

Her time at Elston House has broadened her experience of working in a residential environment and she learnt whilst quickly working her way through her diploma. She was visited several times by her course tutor for on the job observations where Amelia was able to demonstrate many of the skills she had learned. Such was Amelia’s determination and enthusiasm, she managed to complete her course in half the allotted time despite working as a full time support worker at Elston House.

Amelia’s tutor who nominated her for the award wrote “Amelia grew in confidence in her own ability and was determined to complete the course even though she struggled at times. As she developed, Amelia began to produce work to a high standard researching and extending her knowledge. She remained committed and optimistic in her belief she would achieve this qualification. Amelia is an excellent role model for her peers by proving that through learning it is possible to develop, grow and achieve.”

On the night of the awards Amelia didn’t take home the grand prize but she was presented by the Dean of the college with a Level 2 Award for Excellence.

Amelia has already signed up for the Level 3 qualification in Adult Care which she will begin in September.

Well done to Amelia for all her hard work and to the Cygnet Team at Elston House for giving the Amelia the platform to use all the skills she has learnt whilst studying with us!
