This course is ide­al for you if you wish to pur­sue a career in the Sci­ence indus­try. The pur­pose of the T Lev­el (tech­ni­cal qual­i­fi­ca­tion), is to ensure you have the knowl­edge and skills need­ed to progress into skilled employ­ment, high­er-lev­el tech­ni­cal train­ing or a uni­ver­si­ty pro­gramme with­in the sci­ence sector.

This course offers you an attrac­tive alter­na­tive to A Lev­els and appren­tice­ships. An indus­try-based work place­ment is required to run along­side your course, this must be a min­i­mum of 315 hours and will fur­ther rein­force your new­ly learned skills and offer a true insight into the sci­ence industry.

Entry Require­ments

5 GCSEs at grades 4 or above, includ­ing grades 5 or above in Eng­lish Lan­guage, maths and science.

How The Course Will Be Assessed

In the first year you will be expect­ed to com­plete two core knowl­edge paper-based exams and an employ­er-set project which con­tains con­trolled assessments.

In the sec­ond year, you will com­plete an occu­pa­tion­al spe­cial­ism assess­ment to allow you to demon­strate your appli­ca­tion of the rel­e­vant knowl­edge, skills and behav­iours required for the occupation.

Addi­tion­al Information

Your T Lev­el will include an indus­try place­ment with an employ­er to devel­op the prac­ti­cal and tech­ni­cal skills required for the occupation.

We will sup­port you in find­ing rel­e­vant work place­ments but you must demon­strate will­ing­ness to trav­el to your work placements.

These will last a min­i­mum of 315 hours (around 45 days). Employ­ers can offer indus­try place­ments as a block, day release or a com­bi­na­tion of the two.

Poten­tial Future Career

Suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of this course accrues UCAS points and a num­ber of major UK uni­ver­si­ties accept T Lev­els. Please see points achieved by grades below

T‑Level Mer­it = 120 UCAS Tar­iff Points = BBB at A Level

T‑Level Pass (C or above) = 96 UCAS Tar­iff Points = CCC at A Level

T‑Level Pass (D or E) = 72 UCAS Tar­iff Points = DDD at A Level

Due to the high-lev­el aca­d­e­m­ic nature of the T‑Level and the con­sid­er­able indus­try place­ment ele­ment totalling a min­i­mum of 315 hours, you will also have the nec­es­sary knowl­edge, skills, and behav­iours to suc­cess­ful­ly progress direct­ly in to spe­cial­ist area of the sci­ence indus­try, or you can progress on to an appren­tice­ship or high­er lev­el study.

  • Gen­er­al reg­u­la­tion and process­es in health and sci­ence sector
  • Health, safe­ty and envi­ron­men­tal regulations
  • Man­ag­ing infor­ma­tion and data
  • Ethics of sci­ence and how it influ­ences the work under­tak­en by organisations
  • Prin­ci­ples of good sci­en­tif­ic and clin­i­cal practice
  • Sci­en­tif­ic methodology
  • Exper­i­men­tal equip­ment and techniques
  • Biol­o­gy, Chem­istry and Physics equiv­a­lent to A‑level standard
  • Prac­ti­cal skills includ­ing: Per­form­ing a range of appro­pri­ate sci­en­tif­ic tech­niques. Plan, review, imple­ment and sug­gest improve­ments, and Iden­ti­fy and resolve issues with sci­en­tif­ic equip­ment or data errors
