Course overview

This course will devel­op your pro­gram­ming skills in mul­ti­ple lan­guages includ­ing: Python, C#, SQL and JavaScript. You will gain expe­ri­ence using indus­try stan­dard devel­op­ment envi­ron­ments, tech­niques and source code man­age­ment plat­forms which will equip you to face real world pro­gram­ming chal­lenges. Inves­ti­gat­ing dif­fer­ent soft­ware design method­olo­gies, mod­el­ling approach­es and project man­age­ment tools will allow you to build the skills need­ed for your own soft­ware devel­op­ment projects.

You will learn about the val­ue of dig­i­tal tech­nol­o­gy and gain an under­stand­ing of cus­tomer and com­mer­cial needs. Dis­cus­sions about the eth­i­cal and moral issues raised by the increas­ing reliance on tech­nol­o­gy and automa­tion and the impor­tance of legal require­ments will form part of your studies.

All that you learn will then be put to prac­ti­cal use on your indus­tri­al place­ment, where you will be sup­port­ed through­out by your tutors and men­tors to apply what you have learnt to your job role.

In addi­tion, you will have the oppor­tu­ni­ty to explore emerg­ing tech­nol­o­gy trends and inno­va­tions such as Inter­net of Things (IoT), Arti­fi­cial Intel­li­gence (AI) and Machine Learn­ing, Aug­ment­ed Real­i­ty (AR), Blockchain and 3D printing.

This tech­ni­cal study pro­gramme is an attrac­tive alter­na­tive to A Lev­els and appren­tice­ships and is designed in con­sul­ta­tion with employ­ers, pro­fes­sion­al bod­ies and high­er-edu­ca­tion providers to give you the indus­try skills you need in order to start your career with­in the dig­i­tal industry.


Entry Require­ments

5 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above or a Mer­it in a rel­e­vant Lev­el 2 Diplo­ma, plus grade 5/C or above in GCSE Eng­lish Lan­guage and Maths.

Poten­tial Future Career

Suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of this course accrues UCAS points and a num­ber of major UK uni­ver­si­ties accept T Lev­els mean­ing you could progress to fur­ther study in sub­jects such as: net­work­ing, soft­ware devel­op­ment, games design, com­put­er sci­ence, big data ana­lyt­ics, cyber secu­ri­ty, social media and business.

Due to the high-lev­el aca­d­e­m­ic nature of the T‑Level and the con­sid­er­able indus­try place­ment ele­ment totalling a min­i­mum of 315 hours, you will also have the nec­es­sary knowl­edge, skills, and behav­iours to suc­cess­ful­ly progress direct­ly in to spe­cial­ist area of design and sur­vey­ing, or you can progress on to an Appren­tice­ship or high­er lev­el study.

Course Con­tent

You will cov­er dig­i­tal-relat­ed top­ics such as:

  • Busi­ness Con­texts – from infra­struc­ture design to man­ag­ing change.
  • Dig­i­tal Cul­ture – cov­er­ing ethical/​moral issues.
  • Data Analy­sis – with data cap­ture, col­lec­tion, visu­al­i­sa­tion and modelling
  • Dig­i­tal Analy­sis – under­stand­ing algo­rithms, abstrac­tion, pat­tern recog­ni­tion and decomposition
  • Dig­i­tal Envi­ron­ments – cov­er­ing sys­tem fun­da­men­tals for phys­i­cal, vir­tu­al and cloud computing
  • Diver­si­ty and Inclu­sion – under­stand­ing and valu­ing dif­fer­ences, sen­si­tiv­i­ties and equality
  • Dig­i­tal Learn­ing – cov­er­ing emerg­ing tech­nolo­gies, inter­net of things (IoT), arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence (AI), aug­ment­ed real­i­ty (AR), com­put­er graph­ics (3D).
  • Dig­i­tal Leg­is­la­tion and Secu­ri­ty – from data pro­tec­tion and intel­lec­tu­al prop­er­ty to secu­ri­ty and data sharing.
  • Plan­ning and Programming/​Software Devel­op­ment – build­ing project plans, inte­grat­ing soft­ware devel­op­ment life­cy­cle (SDLC), crit­i­cal paths, appli­ca­tion and solu­tion development.
  • Test­ing and Tools – cov­er­ing test­ing methods/​types, indus­try-based dig­i­tal tools and usability/​user expe­ri­ence (UX) user interface(UI) testing.

This spe­cial­ist course will also allow you to enhance your broad­er skills in lit­er­a­cy and numer­a­cy, devel­op trans­fer­able skills in com­mu­ni­ca­tion (work­ing with real col­leagues, cus­tomers and clients) and under­take research and live project devel­op­ment work.

Whilst engag­ing with spe­cial­ist tutors, sup­port staff and work place­ments co-ordi­na­tors, you will also be required to com­plete an indus­try place­ment of at least 45 days – pro­vid­ing the much need­ed real-world expe­ri­ence need­ed for this industry.
