Course overview

This course has been designed to devel­op your prac­ti­cal skills and knowl­edge through real train­ing in indus­try stan­dard work­ing envi­ron­ments. You will learn how to car­ry out sec­ond fix­ing and struc­tur­al car­cass­ing oper­a­tions, whilst gain­ing an under­stand­ing of con­struc­tion tech­nol­o­gy, infor­ma­tion, quan­ti­ties and com­mu­ni­ca­tion. You will also learn and apply the prin­ci­ples of health and safety.

 

Entry Require­ments

A Car­pen­try and Join­ery Diplo­ma Lev­el 1 or equiv­a­lent, or rel­e­vant indus­try experience.

We will review each appli­ca­tion on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suit­able for you.

One of the ways we do this is through a very effec­tive 6 weeks to suc­cess pro­gramme’ that oper­ates from the first day you start your course. This includes sup­port such as (but not lim­it­ed to):

· Allow­ing you to change cours­es if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks ‑sub­ject to availability

· Mov­ing you between course lev­els if you are find­ing your cur­rent lev­el too easy / too hard, sub­ject to availability

· One-to-one reviews with your aca­d­e­m­ic tutor to ensure you are pro­gress­ing and achiev­ing well

Poten­tial Future Career

On suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of this course, you can progress to the Site Car­pen­try or Bench Join­ery Diplo­ma Lev­el 3 or to job roles such as an Appren­tice Site Car­pen­ter, Trainee Car­pen­ter or Trainee Join­er. Depen­dent on your abil­i­ty, you may con­tin­ue your stud­ies with the Extend­ed Diplo­ma in Con­struc­tion and the Built Envi­ron­ment with a view to pro­gress­ing to uni­ver­si­ty or into man­age­r­i­al apprenticeship.

Course Con­tent

You will study the fol­low­ing units:

  • 201 Prin­ci­ples of building
  • 202 Struc­tur­al carpentry
  • 203 Non-Struc­tur­al car­pen­try pri­or to plastering
  • 204 Non-Struc­tur­al car­pen­try fol­low­ing plastering
  • 205 Tim­ber tech­nol­o­gy and the use of cir­cu­lar saw.
