Course overview

Gain the hands-on skills and train­ing you need to become a Plumb­ing and Domes­tic Heat­ing Tech­ni­cian. You will plan, select, install, ser­vice, com­mis­sion and main­tain all aspects of plumb­ing and heat­ing sys­tems. You will learn how to take accu­rate mea­sur­ing, mark­ing, cut­ting, bend­ing and joint­ing, metal­lic and non-metal­lic pipework, and install new envi­ron­ment tech­nolo­gies such as: heat pumps, solar ther­mal sys­tems, bio­mass boil­ers and water recy­cling systems.


What Does The Pro­gramme Include

You will be employed as an appren­tice for at least 30 hours a week. You will have a work­place men­tor or super­vi­sor who will be respon­si­ble for your train­ing and wel­fare at work. You will attend col­lege for work­shop ses­sions as required. An asses­sor will vis­it you in the work­place to assess your progress against stan­dards and set SMART objectives.

Entry Require­ments

Indi­vid­ual employ­ers set their own entry require­ments. How­ev­er, you will typ­i­cal­ly required 5 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above includ­ing Eng­lish and maths. You will need to pass an ini­tial apti­tude test and a prac­ti­cal skills test.

Poten­tial Future Career

As a ful­ly com­pe­tent Plumb­ing and Domes­tic Heat­ing Tech­ni­cian, you will meet the require­ments need­ed to under­take Gas Safe Train­ing cours­es to reg­is­ter on a Com­pe­tent Per­son Scheme (CPS).
