Course overview

This qual­i­fi­ca­tion is designed for learn­ers who are look­ing to gain an intro­duc­tion into the prin­ci­ples of cod­ing and it will enable pro­gres­sion into fur­ther study and sup­port those inter­est­ed in pro­gress­ing to employ­ment in a cod­ing or IT relat­ed role. 

Cod­ing is what makes it pos­si­ble for any­one to cre­ate com­put­er soft­ware. Web­sites, apps, and social media are all made with code, it is a lan­guage that tells com­put­ers what action to per­form. This qual­i­fi­ca­tion is designed for any­one who is look­ing to gain an intro­duc­tion to coding. 

As the world is evolv­ing dig­i­tal­ly and the dig­i­tal sec­tor is grow­ing, this course will give you an insight into the prin­ci­ples of cod­ing, and how cod­ing is used in prac­tice for soft­ware development.

 

Entry Require­ments

You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the cur­rent aca­d­e­m­ic year to be able to enrol on one of our Dis­tance Learn­ing courses. 

You will also need to be work­ing at or above Lev­el 1 in English. 

We will assess your lev­el of Eng­lish before we enrol you onto the course and can sign­post you to our Func­tion­al Skills Eng­lish cours­es to upskill if necessary.

Course Con­tent

To be award­ed the Lev­el 2 Cer­tifi­cate in Under­stand­ing Cod­ing, learn­ers are required to suc­cess­ful­ly com­plete 5 units: 

  • Unit 01 Under­stand the prin­ci­ples of coding 
  • Unit 02 Under­stand ter­mi­nol­o­gy used in coding
  • Unit 03 Under­stand cod­ing design principles
  • Unit 04 Under­stand process­es and prac­tices of coding 
  • Unit 05 Under­stand the impor­tance of com­mu­ni­ca­tion and project man­age­ment in coding
