Course overview
The qualification is designed for learners seeking the skills and knowledge needed to develop a business start-up and gives an understanding of the processes and requirements to create a business.
Over half a million businesses are started every year; however, 30% of these fail within the first two years. Having a better understanding of the initial processes and requirements of a business start-up can increase the chances of your business succeeding.
If you’re looking to start your own business, or already have a business but want to develop and progress your business plan, this qualification will support you with the skills and knowledge you need.
Entry Requirements
You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses. You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English.
We will assess your level of English before we enrol you onto the course and can signpost you to our Functional Skills English courses to upskill if necessary.

Course Content
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Creating a Business Start-Up, learners are required to successfully complete 4 units:
- Unit 01 Initial steps for a business start-up
- Unit 02 Marketing for a business start-up
- Unit 03 Legal and financial considerations when starting a business
- Unit 04 How to develop a business plan
