Course overview
The purpose of this qualification is to increase the learner’s knowledge and awareness of the Prevent Duty and safeguarding including online safety and learners will develop knowledge of safeguarding in an environment where they have a duty of care.
Official data showed that over 7,500 people were referred to the Prevent programme in 2015⁄16. The purpose of this qualification is to support anyone who is responsible for the safeguarding of people and for helping prevent radicalisation.
It gives learners an understanding of recognising the signs of abuse, how to reduce the risk of radicalisation and the potential consequences of illegal online activity.
Entry Requirements
You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses. You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English.
We will assess your level of English before we enrol you onto the course and can signpost you to our Functional Skills English courses to upskill if necessary.

Course Content
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent, learners are required to successfully complete 3 units:
- Unit 01 Understanding the prevent duty
- Unit 02 Understanding safeguarding
- Unit 03 Understanding online safety
