Course overview

This qual­i­fi­ca­tion is designed for learn­ers who want to increase their knowl­edge and under­stand­ing of sup­port­ing adults liv­ing with can­cer and can be used for those who work in health­care or for indi­vid­u­als pro­vid­ing infor­mal care. 

One in two peo­ple will be diag­nosed with can­cer in their life­time. For many indi­vid­u­als, diag­no­sis can be a daunt­ing and over­whelm­ing time. Being able to access the right lev­els of care and ser­vices pro­vides valu­able sup­port when peo­ple need it most. 

As can­cer treat­ments are improved and more peo­ple sur­vive can­cer, an aware­ness of the impact of liv­ing with can­cer long-term and knowl­edge of how to sup­port indi­vid­u­als is vital for any­one car­ing for some­one with cancer. 

This short course is great CPD for those work­ing in health and social care, but is also suit­able for those who care for some­one liv­ing with cancer. 

 

Entry Require­ments

You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the cur­rent aca­d­e­m­ic year to be able to enrol on one of our Dis­tance Learn­ing courses. 

You will also need to be work­ing at or above Lev­el 1 in English. 

We will assess your lev­el of Eng­lish before we enrol you onto the course and can sign­post you to our Func­tion­al Skills Eng­lish cours­es to upskill if necessary.

Course Con­tent

To be award­ed the Lev­el 2 Cer­tifi­cate in Under­stand­ing Can­cer Sup­port, learn­ers are required to suc­cess­ful­ly com­plete 4 units: 

  • Unit 01 Can­cer awareness 
  • Unit 02 Intro­duc­tion to the diag­no­sis and treat­ment of cancer 
  • Unit 03 Intro­duc­tion to can­cer care and support 
  • Unit 04 Intro­duc­tion to end of life and bereave­ment care
