Course overview

This course pro­vides an excel­lent ground­ing for those wish­ing to build a career as a make-up artist. This course con­sists of both hair and make-up mod­ules includ­ing: make-up appli­ca­tions, hair prepa­ra­tion ser­vices, dress­ing and fin­ish­ing hair, face and body art paint­ing. You will have the oppor­tu­ni­ty to com­plete work for var­i­ous com­pe­ti­tions local­ly and nation­al­ly which have seen pre­vi­ous stu­dents take home numer­ous awards for their amaz­ing designs. You will gain work expe­ri­ence in either a hair­dress­ing salon or as a make-up artist.

 

Entry Require­ments

4 GCSEs at grades 3/D or above, includ­ing Eng­lish, maths and science. 

It is desir­able that you have a GCSE in an arts based sub­ject, or cur­rent­ly hold a Beau­ty or Hair­dress­ing Lev­el 1 qualification.

We will review each appli­ca­tion on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suit­able for you. We will also enrol you on GCSE maths and Eng­lish if you have not passed these at a grade 4.

We also run a 6 weeks to suc­cess pro­gramme’ that oper­ates from the first day you start your course. This includes sup­port such as (but not lim­it­ed to):<?xml:namespace pre­fix = o” />

· Allow­ing you to change cours­es if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks ‑sub­ject to availability

· Mov­ing you between course lev­els if you are find­ing your cur­rent lev­el too easy / too hard, sub­ject to availability

· One-to-one reviews with your aca­d­e­m­ic tutor to ensure you are pro­gress­ing and achiev­ing well

Poten­tial Future Career

On suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of this course, you will be able to progress to Lev­el 3 Hair and Media Make-up or to anoth­er course in the depart­ment (Hair or Beau­ty) Lev­el 2 or 3 (course require­ments and inter­view depend­ing) then onto uni­ver­si­ty to study a media make-up or spe­cial effects make-up degree. You could also enter employ­ment in the­atres, TV stu­dios, cos­met­ic coun­ters and on cruise ships.

  • The art of pho­to­graph­ic make-up 
  • The art of hair dressing 
  • Cre­ate an image based on a theme with­in the hair and beau­ty sector 
  • Anato­my and phys­i­ol­o­gy for make-up artists 
  • Total look for com­pe­ti­tion work 
  • Themed face painting 
  • Body art design 
  • Nail art application 
  • Eye treat­ments
  • The art of colour­ing hair 
  • Client con­sul­ta­tion for hair services 
  • Sham­poo­ing and Conditioning 
  • Plait­ing and twist­ing hair

Course Trips

There may be enrich­ment and trips planned for the aca­d­e­m­ic year, these will also be at an addi­tion­al cost, again Learn­ers will be made aware of cost and details well in advance of the trip/​event. All enrich­ment is sub­ject to change.
