Practical Vs Theory


Course overview

Take your first steps to becom­ing a Hair­dress­er or Bar­ber. You will learn how to sham­poo and con­di­tion hair, cut hair using a range of tech­niques, style and fin­ish hair to cre­ate a vari­ety of looks, and colour and light­en hair for ladies and men. You may also use bar­ber­ing tech­niques and pro­vide shav­ing ser­vices for men. 

You will be able to work with all hair types rang­ing from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair; car­ry out con­sul­ta­tions with clients; and demon­strate the pro­fes­sion­al­ism, val­ues, behav­iours, com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills and safe work­ing prac­tices asso­ci­at­ed with your role.


What Does The Pro­gramme Include

You will be employed as an appren­tice for at least 30 hours a week. You will have a work­place men­tor or super­vi­sor who will be respon­si­ble for your train­ing and wel­fare at work. You will attend col­lege for work­shop ses­sions as required. 

Entry Require­ments

Indi­vid­ual employ­ers set their own entry require­ments. GCSE grade 4/C in Eng­lish and maths is desir­able but low­er attain­ment will be considered.

How The Course Will Be Assessed

An asses­sor will vis­it you in the work­place to assess your progress against stan­dards and set SMART objectives.

Poten­tial Future Career

As a ful­ly com­pe­tent Hair Pro­fes­sion­al you can progress to a Senior Hair­dress­er or Senior Bar­ber role and fur­ther your train­ing with the Hair Pro­fes­sion­al Appren­tice­ship Lev­el 3
