Course overview

Gain spe­cif­ic and trans­fer­able work skills whilst explor­ing careers in the ser­vice indus­tries. You will under­take learn­ing in a range of real and real­is­tic work­ing envi­ron­ments, includ­ing our on-site café and retail shop.

You will learn how to pre­pare, cook and serve a range of dish­es and also learn oth­er work-relat­ed tasks such as safe stor­age of food and clean­ing food areas. You will also devel­op retail, cus­tomer ser­vice and busi­ness skills and under­take work expe­ri­ence in real cater­ing and retail envi­ron­ments. This pro­gramme also includes ses­sions in Eng­lish and maths, enrich­ment, tuto­ri­als, inde­pen­dence and sup­port­ed study.

 

Entry Require­ments

No for­mal qual­i­fi­ca­tion are required.

Poten­tial Future Career

On com­ple­tion of this course, you can progress to Employ­a­bil­i­ty Plus or Sup­port­ed Intern­ships. You could also progress to Path­ways, which will allow you to make the tran­si­tion to fur­ther learn­ing in the main col­lege environment.

  • Stu­dents will be assessed on their progress through­out the year and will build an evi­dence portfolio.
  • Includes ses­sions in Eng­lish and maths enrich­ment, tuto­ri­als, inde­pen­dence and sup­port­ed study.
  • Func­tion­al Skills will involve tests at the appro­pri­ate level.
