Course overview

This course is your next step towards becom­ing a qual­i­fied Elec­tri­cian. You will gan prac­ti­cal expe­ri­ence with tasks to repli­cate indus­try stan­dard elec­tri­cal instal­la­tions. You will learn the­o­ry of DC, AC and envi­ron­men­tal instal­la­tion, basic prin­ci­ples of gen­er­at­ing, trans­mit­ting and dis­trib­ut­ing elec­tric­i­ty, and the reg­u­la­tions and require­ments for domes­tic instal­la­tions. All whilst devel­op­ing prac­ti­cal skills in our pro­fes­sion­al elec­tri­cal workshops.

 

What Does The Pro­gramme Include

You will com­plete work books and assign­ments using online resources. You will begin to demon­strate inde­pen­dent learn­ing skills and con­tin­ue your pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment with a Con­struc­tion work place­ment. Through­out this course you will also have the oppor­tu­ni­ty to com­plete many com­mu­ni­ty projects, prepar­ing you for work in the indus­try with on-site expe­ri­ence. The course is sum­ma­tive assessed by a prac­ti­cal assign­ment and final on-line test.

Entry Require­ments

5 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above includ­ing Eng­lish and maths.

We will review each appli­ca­tion on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suit­able for you.<?xml:namespace pre­fix = o” ns = urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />

One of the ways we do this is through a very effec­tive 6 weeks to suc­cess pro­gramme’ that oper­ates from the first day you start your course. This includes sup­port such as (but not lim­it­ed to):

· Allow­ing you to change cours­es if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks ‑sub­ject to availability

· Mov­ing you between course lev­els if you are find­ing your cur­rent lev­el too easy / too hard, sub­ject to availability

· One-to-one reviews with your aca­d­e­m­ic tutor to ensure you are pro­gress­ing and achiev­ing well

How The Course Will Be Assessed

You will com­plete prac­ti­cal assess­ments at your own speed end­ing the year with a prac­ti­cal timed assess­ment. The­o­ry assess­ment will be com­plet­ed through online tests.

Addi­tion­al Information

You will require a ware­house coat, work trousers and laced safe­ty footwear, which can be pur­chased from our web­site, along with ref­er­ence books and sta­tionery. You will be sent a full list of mate­ri­als and equip­ment pri­or to enrolment.

Poten­tial Future Career

On suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of this course, you can progress to the Elec­tri­cal Instal­la­tion Tech­ni­cal Cer­tifi­cate Lev­el 3 or Con­struc­tion and the Built Envi­ron­ment Diplo­ma Lev­el 3 with a view to pro­gress­ing to uni­ver­si­ty or into a man­age­r­i­al appren­tice­ship. You could also progress to job roles such as an Elec­tri­cal Assis­tant or an Instal­la­tion or Main­te­nance Elec­tri­cian Apprentice.

  • Prin­ci­ples of elec­tri­cal science
  • Elec­tri­cal instal­la­tion technology
  • Instal­la­tion of wiring sys­tems and technology
  • Under­stand­ing of com­mu­ni­ca­tion with oth­ers with­in the build­ing services
