Course overview

Devel­op your prac­ti­cal skills and expe­ri­ence and kick-start your career in the brick­lay­ing indus­try. With prac­ti­cal tasks sim­u­lat­ed to match real indus­try sce­nar­ios, you will gain fur­ther skills and knowl­edge of the craft. You will learn how to set out basic mason­ry struc­tures and how to con­struct sol­id walling, incor­po­rat­ing iso­lat­ed and attached piers, cav­i­ty walling, mason­ry cladding and thin joint masonry.

 

Entry Require­ments

A Brick­lay­ing Diplo­ma Lev­el 1, or equiv­a­lent in indus­try experience.

We will review each appli­ca­tion on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suit­able for you.

One of the ways we do this is through a very effec­tive 6 weeks to suc­cess pro­gramme’ that oper­ates from the first day you start your course. This includes sup­port such as (but not lim­it­ed to):

  • Allow­ing you to change cours­es if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks — sub­ject to course availability

  • Mov­ing you between course lev­els if you are find­ing your cur­rent lev­el too easy / too hard sub­ject to course availability

  • Incor­po­rat­ing Eng­lish and maths GCSE resits in to your timetable if you don’t pass at Grade 4

  • One-to-one reviews with your aca­d­e­m­ic tutor to ensure you are pro­gress­ing and achiev­ing well

Poten­tial Future Career

On suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of this course, you can progress to the Brick­lay­ing Diplo­ma Lev­el 3 or to job roles such as a Brick­lay­ing Appren­tice, Labour­er or Ground Worker.

You will study a range of units including:

  • Under­stand­ing con­struc­tion technology
  • Under­stand­ing infor­ma­tion, quan­ti­ties and com­mu­ni­ca­tion with others
  • Health, Safe­ty and Wel­fare in con­struc­tion and asso­ci­at­ed industries
  • Set out mason­ry structures
  • Con­struct sol­id walling incor­po­rat­ing iso­lat­ed and attached piers
  • Con­struct cav­i­ty walling form­ing mason­ry structures
  • Con­struct mason­ry cladding
  • Con­struct thin joint masonry
