Practical Vs Theory
Course overview
Develop your practical skills and experience and kick-start your career in the bricklaying industry. With practical tasks simulated to match real industry scenarios, you will gain further skills and knowledge of the craft. You will learn how to set out basic masonry structures and how to construct solid walling, incorporating isolated and attached piers, cavity walling, masonry cladding and thin joint masonry.
Entry Requirements
A Bricklaying Diploma Level 1, or equivalent in industry experience.
We will review each application on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suitable for you.
One of the ways we do this is through a very effective ‘6 weeks to success programme’ that operates from the first day you start your course. This includes support such as (but not limited to):
Allowing you to change courses if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks — subject to course availability
Moving you between course levels if you are finding your current level too easy / too hard subject to course availability
Incorporating English and maths GCSE resits in to your timetable if you don’t pass at Grade 4
One-to-one reviews with your academic tutor to ensure you are progressing and achieving well

Potential Future Career
On successful completion of this course, you can progress to the Bricklaying Diploma Level 3 or to job roles such as a Bricklaying Apprentice, Labourer or Ground Worker.
Course Content
You will study a range of units including:
- Understanding construction technology
- Understanding information, quantities and communication with others
- Health, Safety and Welfare in construction and associated industries
- Set out masonry structures
- Construct solid walling incorporating isolated and attached piers
- Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures
- Construct masonry cladding
- Construct thin joint masonry




Learning in a practical, hands-on environment helps you achieve your goals and most of all enjoy your time at college. I am planning on undertaking an Apprenticeship to become a qualified Bricklayer.
